João Grama. Biography

João Grama was born in Lisbon in 1975. Between 2005 and 2008, he was enrolled on the Advanced Photography course at Ar.Co in Lisbon.

He was awarded a scholarship by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and is currently enrolled on the Meisterschulerstudium programme at the Hochsschule fur Grafik und BuchKunst in Leipzig, Germany. In 2015 he was nominated for the EDP Foundation’s New Artists Award. In 2012, after being nominated for the European Photo Awards by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, he presented his work at the Calouste Gulbenkian Centre in Paris and at the Deichtorhallen Kunst und Fotografie in Hamburg. In this same year, he presented his solo show ‘Ropes’ at the Espaço Arte Tranquilidade. In 2009 he was nominated for the Anteciparte Award and participated in a group show at the Museu do Oriente in Lisbon. He is represented in several private and public Portuguese collections, including EDP Foundation, Col. Fernando Ribeiro, Deutsche Bank and Novo Banco Art.
