We know the important role that culture plays in the criticai thinking processes of society and in the preservation of the collective's cultural identity. But not everyone knows that the cultural sector contributes significantly to the economy.
ln 2019, the Cultural and Creative Industries (CCis), which include advertising, architecture, the audio-visual sector, books, music, newspapers and magazines, radio, performing arts and visual arts, contributed to the EU-28 economy with a turnover of
€643billion and a total value added of €253 billion, representing 4.4% of the EU's GDP in terms of total turnover, employing more than 7.6 million people in the EU- 28 (GESAC / EY - Rebuilding Europe - The cultural and creative economy before and after COVID- 19, 2021). The economic contribution of CCis is greater than that of telecommunications, high technology, pharmaceuticals  or the automotive industry.
The cultural sector in Portugal contributes more than 3.6% to the national GDP and has enormous potential in terms of growth, however public investment in the country is not enough to leverage the sector and its enormous potential in economic terms. The cultural sector cannot be dependent solely on public investment. lt must create tools and solutions that attract investment from companies and patrons with clear and well-defined benefits.
lt is in this context that MNAC and State of the Art invited distinguished personalities from the businessworld to talk to us about the importance of culture in Portugal and the advantages that cultural projects can bring to companies. Not only in economic and fiscal  terms, but also in terms of image, positioning,  communication,  awareness and  social responsibility, among others.
The objective is to share the experience and vision of companies on the desirable and beneficial harmony between Culture and Economy, through concrete cultural projects carried out.
Companies, creatives and cultural agents must work together, more closely than before. Together, we must turn knowledge about the social importance and economic potential of culture into something so relevant that no one else can ignore it.
